Alaska Child Care Licensing Contact Information
Alaska child care licensing standards and requirements are set to help guide you if you are interested in starting your own Alaska child care business. Alaska child care facilities for persons wishing to provide care for 5 or more children unrelated to the caregiver are required to obtain a license or permits from the Alaska Department of Health and Human Services. Applications and guidelines for such licenses and permits can be obtained from the CAC program at 825 L Street, 3rd floor or by calling (907) 343-4758.
If you would like to operate out of your home, there are 2 types of Alaska Family Child Care Homes, licensed and approved. Both are homes that serve 8 or fewer children unrelated to the caregiver. A licensed Alaska Family Child Care Home is subject to inspection for Health and Safety Regulations prior to becoming licensed. The MOA Department of Health and Human Services Child and Adult Care Program is responsible for monitoring and licensing these homes as well as investigating violations and complaints.
The Alaska Family Child Care Home License must be displayed in the home by the licensed child care provider. In order to obtain an Alaska Family Child Care Home License, the applicant is required to meet the Anchorage Municipal Code AMC 16.55. If you would like to begin the application process, you can call the CAC at (907) 343-4758 or (907) 343-6536.
If you are interested in becoming an Alaska Approved Family Child Care provider, then you will need to contact the State of Alaska’s Division of Public Assistance with the Department of Health and Social Services. Contact (907) 269-4500 to begin the application process. You need to be aware that there are 2 types of Approved Family Child Care Homes: Approved Care and Approved Relative Care.
Approved Family Child Care providers may care for up to 5 children, with no more than 4 children unrelated to the caregiver and no more than 2 children under the age of 30 months. Approved Relative providers can provide care for 5 children related to the provider, with no more than 2 children under the age of 30 months. However, Approved Relative providers are NOT required to become Alaska child care licensed providers.
