Arkansas Child Care Assistance

Hello parents! Below you will find information about the Arkansas Child Care Assistance program, where to find out if a child care facility is licensed, and where to report violations or file a complaint.

The Child Care and Development Fund provides financial child care assistance to low-income families who are in need of quality child care. The Department of Human Services and the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education manage the Arkansas child care assistance program which is under the administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Families must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for child care assistance. First, the program serves children from birth through 12 years of age, so you must have a child in that age range. Second, you must meet certain income guidelines based on the size of your family and your family’s gross monthly income. Depending on the result, some families may still be required to pay a percentage of the child care costs.

Third, you must meet child support requirements and have an active case open for each child requiring child care assistance. Finally, each adult in the household must be employed for 30 hours per week and earn at least minimum wage. However, you may combine employment with full-time enrollment in high school, college, GED classes, vocational school or a training program as long as you still achieve at least 30 hours between employment and education.

If you think your family meets these eligibility requirements, then you will need to fill out an application. You can find a child care assistance application here. Or, you can contact a child care eligibility specialist in your area by checking the list here. If you would like to call the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education, they can be reached at 1-800-322-8176 and an application will be mailed to you.

Once your application is received, a child care eligibility specialist will first determine if the Arkansas Child Care Assistance Fund has available funds. If so, an interview will be set up to confirm eligibility. If not, you will be notified that your name has been placed on a waiting list for the county in which you reside.

When funds become available for Arkansas child care assistance, you will be called for an interview. Your application will remain active on the waiting list for 12 months. At the end of 12 months, if you still require Arkansas child care assistance, you will need to submit a new application to keep your name active on the waiting list.
