Florida Family Child Care Home
Registration Requirements

If you are interested in operating a Florida Family Child Care Home, you must register if your county does not require licensure or obtain a license that will need to be renewed annually. Registration or licensure is done through the department or local Florida child care licensing agency in your county.

MploydA Family Child Care Home operates in an occupied residence whereby children from at least two unrelated families receive care and which payment is made for that care.

Here are the adult/child ratio requirements for Florida Family Child Care Homes as determined Florida child care licensing:
Includes children under 13 years of age related to the caregiver.

  • A maximum of 4 children from birth to 12months of age.
  • A maximum of 6 children, with no more than 3
  • A maximum of 6 preschool children if olderthan 12 months of age.
  • A maximum of 10 children if no more than 5 arepreschool age and of those 5, no more than twoare under 12 months of age.
According to Florida child care licensing, the operator of a Florida Family Child Care Home must be at least 18 years of age and be the occupant and licensee of the home. In addition, the operator is required to complete the 30 clock hour family child care training and pass a competency exam prior to caring for children, must complete 10 hours of annual in-service training, and complete 0.5 continuing education hours of approved training in early literacy and language development birth to 5 years of age.

The operator must have good moral character based upon Level 2 screening standards as set forth by the Department and may not be employed outside of the home during the hours of operation. The operator must be certified in infant/child CPR and first aid training. According to Florida child care licensing, a substitute caregiver is subject to the same standards.

To apply to the Florida child care licensing program, you must complete the Registration Form (CF-FSP Form 5099) and supply Background Screening Forms and fees for each household member 18 and older. A Juvenile records check will be done for household members 12-17 years of age. You must pass the competency exam after you have completed of the 30-Clock-Hour Family Child Care Training course.

Florida child care licensing standards require that you must also provide proof of 10-hour in-service training annually, proof of completion of 0.5 continuing education unit or 5 clock hours of approved training in early literacy and language development birth to 5 years of age, proof of completion of Registered Family Child Care Home Self-Evaluation Checklist (CF-FSP Form 5274), and proof that immunizations are current.
