Florida Large Family Child Care Home
If you are interested in operating a Florida Large Family Child Care Home, the Florida child care licensing program states that you must obtain a license which will be renewed annually. A Large Family Child Care Home operates in an occupied residence whereby children from at least unrelated families receive care and which payment is made for that care with at least 2 full-time child care personnel on the premises during the hours of operation.
Here are the adult/child ratio requirements for Florida Large Family Child Care Homes as determined by Florida Child Care Licensing: Includes children under 13 years of age related to the caregiver.
- A maximum of 8 children age birth to 24 months.
- A maximum of 12 children, no more than 4 children under 24 months.
According to the Florida child care licensing standards, the operator of a Florida Large Family Child Care Home must be at least 21 years of age and must be the occupant and licensee of the home. The operator must have good moral character based upon a Level 2 screening standards as set forth by the Department and may not be employed outside the home during hours of operation.
According to the Florida child care licening standards, the operator must be licensed as a Family Child Care Home for 2 consecutive years in Florida prior to licensure as a Large Family Child Care Home and have a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or equivalent for 1 year prior to licensure as a Large Family Child Care Home. The operator must pass a competency exam after the completion of 40 hours of training. Within 6 months of licensure, the operator must pass a competency exam after the completion of 10 hours of specialized training. The operator must complete 10 hour annual in-service training and 0.5 continuing education unit or 5 clock hours of approved training in early literacy and language development birth to 5 years of age. The operator must have a valid certification in infant/child CPR and first aid training.
Florida child care licensing requirements also state that there must be at least 1 full-time employee in addition to the operator. Employees must be at least 18 years of age, be present during the hours of operations, and have good moral character based upon a Level 2 screening standards as set forth by the Department.
According to Florida child care licensing, employees must begin the 30 clock hour family child care training within 90 days of employment and successfully pass the competency exam within 1 year from the date the training began. Employees must also complete 10 hour annual in-service training and 0.5 continuing education unit or 5 clock hours of approved training in early literacy and language development birth to 5 years of age. According to Florida child care licensing requirements, any substitute caregivers are required to meet similar standards.
