Georgia Family Day Care Home Licensing Information
The Georgia Family Day Care licensing contact information page will provide valuable information if you are thinking of starting your own Georgia child care business.
A child care license or registration is issued by the Child Care Services section which operates under the direction of Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning. Child Care Services sends licensing consultants to conduct annual licensing inspections of child care learning centers and make periodic visits to all child care programs to evaluate compliance with state requirements. Child Care Services also provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to Georgia child care programs. Child Care Services provides licensing orientation sessions for prospective centers and group day care homes. They also process criminal records checks on all directors and family day care home providers and staff.
A Georgia Family Day Care Home is operated in a private residential home that meets any city and/or county requirements and operates for less than 24 hours per day. A Georgia Family Day Care Home provider delivers care to 3, but no more than 6 children under the age of 18 for pay. A Family Day Care Home Unit monitors providers who operate a child care program.
This type of program must be registered through the Bright From the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and must comply with the rules and regulations for Family Day Care Homes. The Certificate of Registration will be issued after a completed application and criminal records check has been evaluated and presents satisfactory evidence that the home is in compliance with applicable statutes. The department is authorized to conduct inspections at any time during operating hours.
If you are unsure about the registration process for the Georgia Family Day Care Home, you may attend a Registration Orientation Meeting. The Registration Orientation Meeting (ROM) is a half-day session to explain the initial registration process. The orientation includes rules and regulations training and developmentally appropriate practices. To register for this free course please call your local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency or see the
Bright From the Start website.
The provider must be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED), or similar credentials. The provider must also have certification in CPR/First Aid that is offered by a licensed or certified health care professional. The provider is also required to attend 10 clock hours of training related to the care of children that is offered by an accredited college, university, or any other department approved source. For additional information about starting a Georgia Family Day Care, visit the
Bright From the Start website.
A Group Day Care provides care for not less than 7 nor more than 18 children under the age of 18 years old for less than 24 hours without transfer of legal custody and which is required to be licensed or commissioned by the department. It is operated by a person, society, agency, corporation, institution, or group that receives pay for the care that is provided.
A Child Care Center is also operated by a person, society, agency, corporation, institution, or group that receives pay for the care that is provided. It provides care for 19 or more children, less than 18 years of age for less than 24 hours per day.
